Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is most strongly differentiated by its greater emphasis on groundwork and self-defense than other martial arts. Commonly, striking-based styles spend almost no time on groundwork. Even other grappling martial arts tend to spend much more time on the standing phase. It is helpful to contrast its rules with Kodokan judo's greater emphasis on throws, due to both its radically different point-scoring system, and the absence of most of the judo rules that cause the competitors to have to recommence in a standing position. This has led to greater time dedicated to training on the ground similar to that of Kosen Judo, resulting in enhancement and new research of groundwork techniques by BJJ practitioners.
We are affiliated with Professor Pedro Sauer, 8th Degree Red & Black Belt Master Instructor under Grandmaster Helio Gracie (Co-Founder of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) and Master Rickson Gracie.
BJJ’s great strengths are on ground fighting, grappling, joint locks, and chokes. When learning Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in Everett at Everett Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Wing Tsun Kung Fu not only do we teach the modern and continually evolving Jiu-Jitsu techniques used in competition, but also the self-defense program passed down from Great Grand Master Helio Gracie to Master Sauer. These techniques have been proven effective for self-defense, and are the main staple of most MMA fighters today. These techniques are a requirement for students to learn as well. Our students are required effectively utilize these techniques at belt testing.
